I recently had the joy of photographing the Taberer family at their home on Avontuur Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.
Shoots like this are a reminder of why I love what I do, not just for the images but for the moments in between.
There’s something so personal and grounding about photographing a family in their own space. Being on the farm where memories are made every day added a natural ease to the entire experience. Their little girl explored the garden freely, full of curiosity and joy, and in the middle of the chaos that only a young child can bring, we captured exactly what I always hope to: true, unfiltered connection.
This wasn’t about posed smiles or perfect backdrops. It was about capturing the real moments, a quiet glance between parents, muddy feet, soft light pouring through the trees, and the energy that makes a house a home.
The beauty of documentary style family photography is that nothing has to be manufactured. The magic is already there in the gestures, in the movement, in the laughter that comes when no one is telling you to smile. And this session had all of that.
To the Taberer family, thank you for opening up your home and allowing me to capture a few pages of your story. Shoots like this stay with me.
If you're wanting something similar, natural, relaxed, and full of feeling, I’d love to create that for your family too.
